How to apply for the Master's programme in Veterinary Medicine

REQUIRED DOCUMENTATION:

In order to apply for the Veterinary Medicine programme, you need to provide us with the following documents:

1) Medical certificate

This medical certificate of fitness to study veterinary medicine can be found on our website here. It should be signed and stamped by a general practitioner. The original document or a certified copy of it (i.e. a copy which has been signed and stamped by a recognised authority as a true copy of the original) should be sent to the study office.

2) Secondary school leaving certificate

To prove that you have completed your secondary school education and are eligible to undertake undergraduate university studies, we need a certified copy of your school leaving certificate or equivalent document. We do not recommend sending the original unless you have multiple copies of it as we do not return documents sent to us as part of the admissions procedure.

If you do not have your school leaving certificate at the time of application, you should provide evidence from your school (e.g. an official letter or report) stating that you are in your final year of study and giving the dates when you are expected to graduate from the school. We can proceed with the admissions procedure on this basis, but please note that you will not be issued with a full offer of a place on the course until we have received all the required documentation.

Even if you have already studied at undergraduate level, the key document from the point of view of the admissions procedure is your certificate of secondary school education.

Under Czech law, you may also need to prove the equivalence of your secondary school education - see here for more information.

3) Two passport-size photographs

The precise dimensions are not critical as these will be used for internal administrative purposes.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE:

Stage one of application process

In the first stage of the application process, you should submit an online application for the course using the university's electronic application portal - link here.

Applications for the course usually open in mid December and close at the end of March for entry in September of that year. The application deadlines and the conditions for admission to the course are reviewed on an annual basis, so we recommend that you check the website in late November/early December for the latest information.

As well as your personal details (name, contact details, details of previous education, etc.) your e-application should contain the following attachments, preferably in pdf format:

A scanned copy or high-quality photograph of the completed medical certificate from our website – to be attached in the section entitled Medical report of health requirements compliance.

Evidence of your secondary school education – to be attached in the section entitled Generic appendix to the application. This section can also be used for additional information you wish to attach to your application. It is possible to submit an application and then attach additional documents to it at a later date.

Candidates who require adjustments to the admissions procedure on medical grounds (e.g. an extension of the time allowed for the entrance exam) should fill in this form and attach it to their application along with an additional medical report stating the reasons for this adjustment. This can be attached to your application in the generic section, but you may also wish to alert the study office to your request.

This stage must be completed before the published application deadline – see conditions.

Stage two of application process

Applicants who have submitted an online application will be contacted by email to arrange a date and time for the entrance exam. The period during which the entrance exams will be held will be published in advance on our website as part of the conditions. However, the exact date may not be notified to you until after the close of applications. We usually offer the possibility to take the entrance exam online or in person.

If you have been given a date for the entrance exam and are unable to take the exam at that time, you should contact the study officer to let them know. An unexcused absence from the entrance exam is classed as failure to comply with the conditions for admission to study and will lead to the termination of your application. If a candidate cannot attend the entrance exam for serious and well-documented (especially health) reasons and wishes to request an alternative date on those grounds, they must submit a formal written request within five working days from the date of the scheduled entrance exam.

After you have taken the entrance exam, your test scores will be published in the application portal (in the section entitled Procedure information). As a rough guide, you can expect to receive your test scores within about a week of sitting the test. However, please note that passing the entrance exam does not guarantee you a place on the course as the number of places available is limited. The final decision on a student's acceptance or non-acceptance will normally be made by the dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the end of the entrance exam period.

Stage three of application process

After the dean has made his decision about which students will be admitted to the course, applicants' status will be updated in the application portal (admitted to study / not accepted to study). Successful applicants will normally be contacted by email and asked to confirm their acceptance of the place on the course. They will also be asked to pay the first instalment of the tuition fees for the first year of study in order to secure their place on the course. The official acceptance letter will be uploaded to the application portal. If at this stage an applicant has not yet received their final results from secondary school, they may be issued with a conditional acceptance to the course.

Applicants from outside the EU should note that it is the responsibility of each applicant to make sure that they comply with any visa requirements for entry to the Czech Republic – it is not possible for VETUNI to arrange a student visa on your behalf. Please be aware that the processing time for student visa applications can be lengthy, so it is important to allow plenty of time for this process.
