Instead of being divided into two semesters, the structure of teaching in the sixth year of the Master's programme in Veterinary Medicine is based on four 10-week blocks. Three of these blocks are taken up by the following compulsory subjects:
Infectious Diseases of Animals and Legislation (5 weeks) / Food Hygiene (5 weeks)
Diseases of Dogs and Cats (10 weeks)
Diseases of Ruminants and Swine (10 weeks)
In the remaining block, students can choose one of the following elective subjects:
Equine Diseases (10 weeks)
Diseases of Reptiles, Birds & Small Mammals (10 weeks)
Diseases of Poultry & Farmed Rabbits (10 weeks)
Thesis (10 weeks)
In some of the blocks, students can choose to carry out all or part of the block externally. In that case, they need to submit a request for external practice signed and stamped by the external provider. Once this has been approved by the relevant department at the university, an internship agreement will be drawn up between the university and the external provider. For more information, contact the study office.
In a change to the previous practice, it is now possible for students to work on a thesis outside the scope of the elective clinical blocks. If a student chooses a clinical subject as one of their elective blocks (Equine Diseases / Diseases of Reptiles, Birds and Small Mammals / Diseases of Poultry and Farmed Rabbits), they can also prepare a thesis in addition to this choice. If the student chooses Thesis as an elective block, this is considered sufficient to fulfil the requirement for an elective subject. It is not possible to choose two clinical elective subjects.
